One person was killed and two others wounded during a stabbing at Spring High School in Texas early Wednesday morning.

The victim of the fatal stabbing at Spring High School in Spring, Tex., was not immediately identified. It’s unclear whether the murder victim was a student at the high school. The person died at the scene, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Another victim, described as a 16-year-old boy, was airlifted to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, Click 2 Houston reported. The boy’s condition is not known.

The stabbing occurred around 7:14 a.m. Wednesday local time, KHOU reported. The Houston television station’s cameras captured video of two men being handcuffed and taken into custody following the incident.

Florida Man Cites ‘Bush Doctrine’ After Shooting Neighbors; Judge Undecided On Whether Dick Cheney Can Testify

by Fakakta South

Welcome-to-Florida.jpgHey Florida! How’s it hanging? Kinda loose, and to the right of unfathomable idiot-crazy just like always maybe?

Taking a cue from both Stand Your Ground and the Bush Doctrine (yes, the Bush Doctrine, just wait) Florida man William T. Woodward did the only thing he could to defend himself from imminent danger, he “snuck up” on three of his neighbors and unleashed a campaign of shock and awe on their Labor Day backyard barbecue in the form of over 50 rounds, killing two and severely injuring the third (the “shot him 11 times” kind of injured).

i.gif?e=eyJhdiI6MzEyMTUsImF0Ijo1LCJjbSI6

But wait, he has pretty serious back-ups to this plan you see, because now his lawyers have cited not only the state’s perfectly reasonable “Stand Your Ground” law, but also “President George W. Bush’s pre-emptive war in Iraq and the “Bush Doctrine” as a defense.” And really who could blame them?

In their motion, Woodward’s attorneys claimed that the victims had called him names and threatened to “get him.”

The motion referenced Enoch V. State, which suggests that an “imminent” threat can include something that is likely to occur at sometime in the future.

“I think legally that term has sort of been evolving especially given changes of our government’s definition of ‘imminent,’” attorney Robert Berry, who is representing Woodward, told Florida Today. “It’s become more expansive than someone putting a gun right to your head. It’s things that could become, you know, an immediate threat.”

You really can’t fault the dude’s attorneys for the obvious stand your groundness of this, even if it was the neighbor’s ground. Because after the outcome of the Zimmerman case, we understand that the law stands squarely for the proposition that you can hunt (the guy was in fact wearing the standard camos) and stalk someone to provoke them into confronting you, and if you get a shot, you can kill them. But the Bush Doctrine? That’s just ingenious.

The court document filed by the defense also cited “The Bush Doctrine,” a foreign policy principle used by President George W. Bush to justify the invasion of Iraq. “The Bush Doctrine” embraces “preventive” or pre-emptive war.

And really, that is all this was. People do not just go around saying they are going to “get you” without starting a full on war, ya know? And this guy thought that they might could possibly really mean they were going to “get him” in the future, some day, maybe. And if the Bush Doctrine taught us anything, it is that one does not leave possible threats out there when they might be plotting to sneak up and attack. “Imminent threat” now means “something that might happen in the future” and “no duty to retreat” means “You can hunt down unarmed people and shoot the fucking shit out of them on their own property.”

And JUST LIKE in Iraq, No weapons of mass destruction have been discovered as of yet at the neighbor’s house, but William T. Woodward insists that he knows where they are, to the north, and east, and south, and west of the neighbor’s property lines. What else could he do? He had to take the gun he had, not the gun he wished he had (probably one of those real fast AR-15 would have come in real handy) and fight them over there, so he didn’t have to fight them at his house. Because they weren’t at his house, but still. And it was a party y’all, so insert your own joke about yellow-cake here.

90 arrested in S. Florida Medicare crackdown

Twenty-five South Florida arrests were made Tuesday out of 90 nationwide for alleged Medicare fraud, including an actor and cable station operator in the hotbed of U.S. health care scams -- Miami.

The biggest Florida name swept up by police was actor and entrepreneur Roberto Marrero, who comes from a family of thespians in Cuba. He raked in millions from Medicare fraud, investigators charge.

Marrero was arrested Tuesday along with his wife, Sandra Fernandez Viera. They stand accused of submitting

$20 million in bogus bills to the taxpayer-funded Medicare program for purported home health care services for diabetic patients.

The couple joined 89 accused Medicare fraud offenders charged in a federal operation that stretched from Miami to Detroit to Los Angeles. Collectively, the defendants, including doctors, nurses and clinic operators, were accused of plotting to bilk $223 million from Medicare.

In 2007, Marrero struck gold as a Medicare-licensed health care provider in Miami, authorities say. Marrero was often seen tooling around in new toys: a couple of Lamborghinis, a Ferrari and a Bentley.

According to his resume. he's had roles in soap operas and bit parts in TV shows, including "Miami Vice," "America's Most Wanted" and "Unsolved Mysteries."

Marrero also launched a cable TV station in Miami featuring programs about Cuban culture. It operated from a television studio he built in the Allapattah area.

The crackdown was part of a continuing Medicare Fraud Strike Force effort in Miami and eight other regions riddled with health care corruption. The Obama administration is pursuing those who perpetrate scams against the government's health insurance program for the elderly and disabled, which has a long history of fraudulent billing and lax oversight of Medicare operators.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder joined Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in Washington, D.C., to announce the results of the Strike Force's sixth national takedown of Medicare fraud offenders since 2010.

Sebelius added: "You will get caught, and you will pay the price."

Marrero and his wife made their first appearances Tuesday in federal court in Miami, along with several of the South Florida defendants charged with Medicare fraud.

Justice Department prosecutor Brendan Stewart wants to detain the couple as flight risks. Marrero's attorney, Jose Quiñon, said he will challenge the government's no-bond position, arguing Marrero has strong ties to the community. His wife's attorney, Leonard Sands, said he also plans to fight any detention.

Marrero and his wife were co-owners of Trust Care Health Services in Miami from 2007 to 2010. According to the indictment, the couple submitted false bills to Medicare to treat 700 homebound diabetic patients who purportedly could not inject their own insulin and needed the assistance of costly skilled nurses. The couple also billed Medicare for unnecessary physical therapy, according to the indictment.

The couple reportedly paid thousands of dollars a month to a recruiter, Enrique Rodriguez, who supplied patients with valuable Medicare cards. Rodriguez, accused of bribing patients, was also charged in the indictment.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Miami is seeking to freeze the couple's assets as FBI agents and Health and Human Services investigators try to uncover where they hid the $15 million their business, Trust Care, allegedly received from Medicare over the four-year period, prosecutors said.

According to a court complaint, Marrero received more than $5 million from Trust Care accounts, and other corporations he set up received another $4 million. His wife pocketed $400,000 from Trust Care's accounts, the complaint shows.

Yet, "the United States has only been able to locate assets totaling a fraction of that amount," prosecutors wrote in the complaint.

"Defendants have dissipated millions of dollars in Medicare funds, and unless enjoined, will continue to dissipate the proceeds of their Medicare fraud and other assets in their possession," they wrote.

Tenn. Shooting Victims in Car Include 3 Teens
CRAB ORCHARD, Tenn. September 13, 2013 (AP)

The four people found shot to death in a car in the former mountain resort in Tennessee included one woman and three teenage boys.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation identified the victims Friday as 22-year-old Danielle Jacobson, 16-year-old John Lajeunesse and two 17-year-olds, Steven Presley and Dominic Davis.

Investigators said a person of interest in the case was located in Rhea County overnight and taken into custody on an unrelated charge.

The car containing the bodies was discovered by a resident of the community about 50 miles west of Knoxville on Thursday morning.

The former resort had controlled access with a gate until 2010, when new owners got rid of it. That move left some residents concerned about security in the 3,000-acre community.
